OCA 美華協會 New England Chapter Founded in 1973, the Organization of Chinese Americans, Inc. (OCA) is a national non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization of concerned Chinese & Asian Americans. OCA is dedicated to securing the rights of Chinese American and Asian American citizens and permanent residents through legislative and policy initiatives at all levels of the government. The OCA-New England Chapter was founded in 1981 and has been a presence in the Asian Pacific American community in the region since its inception. OCAs Primary Goals
- Securing social justice, equal opportunity and equal treatment of Asian Pacific Americans; - Eliminating prejudices, stereotypes and ignorance of Asian Pacific Americans; and - Promoting the cultural heritage of Chinese and other Asian Pacific Americans. To achieve these objectives, OCA is engaged in networking with its 50 chapters across the nation to develop leadership and community involvement. Our chapters and over 30 organizational and college affiliates are establishing strong local programs in all parts of the country, uncluding New England. As the first national Asian Pacific American organization to establish headquarters in Washington, D.C., OCA has been successful in building national support and working in coalition with other national groups around issues affecting Asian Pacific Americans. OCA's base in Washington, D.C. gives the national office an effective vantage point for monitoring legislation and policy issues affecting Chinese Americans and Asian Americans. In addition, OCA publishes IMAGE magazine, which serves as a communications link between chapter members as well as an informative source on federal and legislative initiatives and policies relevant to the Chinese American and Asian Pacfic American communities. OCA takes no collective position on the politics of any foreign country, but instead focuses on the welfare and civil rights of Chinese Americans and Asian Americans in the United States. |
