John Gregory m. Elizabeth Neal, d/o Thomas Neal, 7 Feb 1793.
Mecklenburg Co., VA Personal Property Tax lists in the year 1795 shows John Gregory styled "son of Joseph" and taxed 1 free white male above 16 yrs; 4 blacks over 16; 2 horses, mares, colts & mules. Blacks listed were Bob, Dick, Fanny and Grace.
John purchased 400 acres adj his father, Joseph Gregory, in Mecklenburg Co., VA in 1795.
John began to buy tracts in adj. Lunenburg in 1807. He was styled "of Lunenburg" for the 1st time when he purchased in Lunenburg 6 acres (mill site) in Apr 1816 from Lewis Burwell of Mecklenburg. He continued to enlarge his holdings in Lunenburg.
John Gregory left a will in Lunenburg Co., VA naming 9 children: son Thomas N. Gregory (to MO); son Roderick R. Gregory (to MO); son Jackson Gregory (to GA); son David S. Gregory (to MO); dau Nancy Camp wife of Joshua Camp (to Rutherford Co., NC); dau Lucilia Robertson wife of Peter Robertson (to Williamson Co., TN as widow); granddaughter Mary J. T. E. Roberts, dau of John Roberts (Charlotte Co., VA) "who married my daughter Elizabeth Gregory who has now deceased"; son Zachariah Josephus Gregory (remained Lunenburg); dau Susan wife of Doctor M. Keith (to AL); wife Elizabeth Gregory. |

Benjamin was listed in adjoining Charlotte Co., VA 1793, one white tythe, no blacks, one horse. Benjamin was shown on Mecklenburg tax lists 1794, 1795 and 1799. Benjamin was again listed in Charlotte Co 1800. No further record found of Benjamin; no marriage record found. Children, if any, unknown. |

Mecklenburg Co., VA Per. Prop. Tax List 1800 show Joseph Gregory Sr, Joseph Gregory Jr, and John Gregory, along with Gregorys of other families. [Early Settlers Mecklenburg Co., VA, v2, Elliott]
Joseph Gregory Jr was living in Charlotte Co., VA by Feb 1805 when he purchased 280 a. from Henry W. Overby on waters of Horsepen Cr. in Charlotte Co.
Children: Mary m. Reps J. Elam; Elizabeth m. Young Stokes; John m. Lucretia H. Foster; Nancy m. Field A. Jones; Martha m. Thomas S. Elam; Joel m. Nancy Lester; Ambrose m. [Frank H. Smith, p.99] Sol, son of Thomas Gregory, interviewed by Smith in 1906, referred to the "Black Tongue Disease" that caused so many deaths in the Columbia, TN area, Sol said those in the Gregory family who died of the disease: aunts Mildred Gregory & Polly (Gregory) Brown, brother Samuel, and sister Lucinda. Jill Garrett, Columbia historian, wrote in 1985 that the Thomas Gregory Cemetery in Columbia was destroyed in 1930's. Two of the stones were found in a springhouse in 1978, but the springhouse was gone in 1984. One of the stones had read: "Mildred Gregory, b. 9 March 1780, d. 27 Feb 1844." |

Married 1814 Charlotte Co., VA to Edna Goode Elam; d. 22 Nov 1839, La. Thomas was living with his father, Joseph Gregory Sr, after Joseph remarried and moved 1807 to Charlotte Co. from adjoining Mecklenburg.
Thomas Gregory owned a number of tracts of land in Charlotte Co., VA
Thomas Gregory asked for letter of dismission from Meherrin Meeting House (Lunenburg) as he was about to remove (August 1826).
A 1837 letter written by Thomas Gregory, Columbia, TN [possession of Jo Lee Spears] to nephew Josephus Gregory (son of John) asks that Josephus have "farther" sent to Tennessee by some safe hand, and to secure a gentle horse and a carriole. "Farther" would have been Joseph Gregory Senr, grandfather to Josephus who was son of John who had died in 1836 - the last of Joseph Senior's sons living in Virginia.

Edward's father, Joseph, died at Edward's, close to the same time Edward died, but Joseph's grave has not been identified.
