Note: This Richard Gregory is frequently referred to as "Richard W. Gregory." Generally, he signed "Richard Gregory." Though some researchers of this line give his middle name as "West," I have never seen documentation of it. Neither have I seen documentation of the forebears of this Richard Gregory./jgs

Halifax Co., VA Richard Gregory among the male tithables on list of Richard Griffin Jr. appointed surveyor to keep the road under repair from Spiro Creek to Aarons Cr., (the latter is dividing line between Halifax and Mecklenburg).

Halifax Co., VA 16 Aug 1770 deed of 200a from Richard Griffin to Richard Gregory. Ambrose Gregory wit the deed.[Halifax Co., VA DB 3:152]

[Harry Newman paper] From 1784 to 1787 Richard Gregory was disposing of his realty in Mecklenburg and Halifax Counties. By 1788 was seated in Mercer Co. which adj his later domicile in Washington Co., VA, later KY. Deed 20 Aug 1788 "Richard Gregory of Mercer Co., VA" conveyed to John Vaughan of Mecklenburg Co., VA 277 acres in Halifax Co., land that was patented to Gregory on 23 Oct 1770.[Halifax Co. Deeds, Liber 15, folio 355]

Will of Richard Gregory was made 1812 and proved 1817 in Washington Co., KY

1823 Land Tax of Mecklenburg shows the following of the Richard Gregory family remaining in Mecklenburg: Mary Gregory wid of John Gregory s/o Richard and Barnet Gregory s/o John and Mary.

Co., VA DB 28:281; 15 Jun 1839; Anderson Overbey commr appointed by the county court of Mecklenburg Nov Court 1837 to sell lands of Polly Tillotson late Polly Gregory widow of John Gregory dec'd to Joseph Watkins of Meck. Co. 97 acres south side of Roanoke River on the waters of Beaver Pond Creek adj land of John B. Yancey, Robert Hester, Clark Royster & others.
