The Will of Richard BETTON (c1748-1827)

This writing contains the last Will and Testament of me Richard Betton of Pontesbury in the County of Salop, yeoman, being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, do make and declare this my last Will and Testament, in the manner and form following, That is to say, first I give, devise, and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Martha Betton, all my Goods and Furniture, together with my Beds, Bedsteads, and all things belonging to such Beds, together with all my Linen of what nature or kind or wheresoever the same may be at my decease, also all my stock of Ale and other Liquor contained in my Cellar or Cellars at my decease, and also all my Brewing and other Utensils of what kind soever or wheresoever the same may be at my decease, to dispose of the same as she shall think proper - I give, devise, and bequeath to my daughter Martha Crump, wife of William Crump, all those my Freehold Messuage, lands, tenements, hereditaments, and premises with the Appurtenances, whereof I am seised in fee, situate, living, and being of Pontesbury in the County of Salop, and now in the occupation of William Crump, to have and to hold all and every the said lands, tenements, and hereditments, with the Appurtenances situate as aforesaid, to her the said Martha Crump her heirs and Assignees for ever - I Give, devise and bequeath to my six children herein after named, by my former wife Sarah Betton, That is to say First - I give, devise and bequeath to my son Richard Betton, the sum of Thirty Pounds - I give, devise and bequeath to my son John Betton, the sum of Thirty Pounds - I give, devise and bequeath to my son Thomas Betton, the sum of Thirty Pounds - I give, devise and bequeath to my son James Betton, the sum of Thirty Pounds - I give, devise and bequeath to my daughter Anne Mansell, the sum of Thirty Pounds - I give, devise and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Cheshire, the sum of Thirty Pounds - The above six legacies, I request may be paid by my Executors herein after named, within one year after my decease, The rest of my personal property, except what is herefore given to my Wife Martha Betton - I Give devise and bequeath unto my two other children herein after named, by my present Wife Martha Betton. That is to say, First - I Give and bequeath to my son Reynold Betton the sum of Thirty Pounds - I Give and bequeath to my daughter Susan Crump the sum of Thirty Pounds - The said two legacies I request may be paid as the former six legacies are by me directed to be paid. All the rest and Residue of money, goods, Chattels, estates and effects (except what is given to my Wife Martha Betton and the legacies before mentioned) after my funeral expenses and of proving this my Will are Paid, I Give, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Susan Crump - Lastly I do nominate, constitute, and appoint Mr Edward Plimmer and Mr Thomas Gittins of Pontesbury, Executors of this my last Will and Testament and they be paid their expenses of executing their office. And I do hereby revoke and make void, all and every other Will or Wills at any time heretofore by me made and do declare this be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Richard Betton have set my hand and seal this third day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and twenty six (1826)
