Resource Links Welcome to my roleplaying resources page! I hope you enjoy and find useful my collection of annotated links, which are either about gaming or roleplaying, or thought to be resources useful for GMs (game masters) in developing their games. Feel free to let me know if you have surfed across any great pages you think I should add to this list. Note that some links may be listed multiple times under different category headings. E.g. An amusing online newspaper article about how gaming leads to satanism might be listed both under "Humour-Anti-Gaming Polemics", "Players-Christianity", and "Media-Newspaper Articles".

The Electronic Zoo- All of a sudden, you need information on or pictures of gorillas for your campaign. Or ferrets, or something. This is where to look. This is a very navigable (sorted roughly by species or type) exhaustive list of animal webpage links (not annotated). One helpful feature is the two special sections listing webpages devoted to images, and those to sounds.
Caro's Guide to Roleplaying as a Wolf- This person's done some serious research on what real wolves are like, and has a very handy summary of info (eg on vocalizations, eye contact, dominance and submission, pack hierarchy) suited particularly for online roleplayers.
Munin's Hold- Norse Mythology- A good collection of links on Norse and Germanic mythology. Just links, no content.
Pagan and Witchcraft free software and downloads- Aimed at modern day pagans & wiccans, these free software programs on pagan festivals, spell casting, psychic card tests, lunar phases, tarot, runes, and divination, may also be useful for integrating magic and pagan festivals into your game world.
RPG Host.com - Very professional site includes a search engine RPGGateway Role Playing Games Search Engine and ability to browse by categories (like Yahoo). Also hosts RPG shopping sites, forums, and more.
Game Wyrd- RPG news, reviews, forums, and a good gateway for people interested in online gaming. Also has an interesting page where people have suggested mood music for a particular gaming event (e.g. music to match a bar fight, or an elven bard singing).
About.com Roleplaying Games- A portal to various gaming websites, links sorted by gaming genre and a few other categories (e.g. Fantasy art).
Role-Playing Resources- A neat page of useful annotated links, much like this one! Also includes internal website links to a heap of useful gaming resources, as well as external links.
Dark Dungeons- In the heyday of roleplaying being seen as leading impressionable youths to worship Satan, cast spells on their parents, and commit suicide, this little comic was brought out to help warn good Christian folk of the evils of Dungeons and Dragons. I think roleplayers probably read it more now than Christians do, it's a great laugh!
Stabbing may be linked to roleplay When will they learn? RPGs do not cause people to murder, steal, or commit suicide. Neither does rock music, or long scary looking trench coats, for that matter. Here's a very recent article on the dangers of gaming. Mind you, it doesn't even sound as if the culprits ever gamed, except if you only pay attention to the article's title, and the first paragraph. I think you'd be just as well off saying "Stabbing may be linked to military training", and investigating that element of their background.
The Gamer Jargon Website- Find definitions of gaming slang and common gaming lore here, from adamantium to zone. Learn all about dice karma, munchkins, LARP, bricks, and more! The little anecdotes that go with some of the definitions are hilarious!
Hoody Hoo Cartoons- These wonderful people have taken the brilliant comic series, "Knights of the Dinner Table", and animated some of their sketches.
The DM Class- A fictional roleplaying class for DM's for the AD&D system, though really just a good laugh at the various stages of development of DMs over time, and their/our little peculiarities.
Summoner Geeks- A cute little online movie, but you might have trouble making your software play it. If you can make it play (can be tricky), you'll see a funny story illustrating what a gaming session is really like- not satanic, but nerdy.
Kenzer & Co- Official home of humourous gaming comics including "Knights of the Dinner Table" (KODT), the Kingdoms of Kalamar game setting, and the Hackmaster game system. You can read some free online comic strips for KODT here online, some of which don't appear in the regular paper-based comic.
You Might Be a Gamer If....- Everyone's seen lists like these, for various occupations/hobbies/etc. This one's for gamers, for example: "You might be a gamer if.......loosing your dice bag would be a serious financial blow."
Model Links- A list of modelling pages. Since when does a PC look average??
Sunshine Girls- An online dating/penpal service that has heaps of photos and short bios of asian women. Search from this sub-site by nationality and age, for the perfect photo of an ordinary Filipina, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Indonesian, or Thai woman. All photos are G-rated (i.e. fully clothed), mostly head & shoulders shots. I stumbled across this one while looking for a photo to modify to be a Psylocke picture.
4F: Fantastic Fantasy and Fetish Females- This one's adults-only, so if you're under legal age to view scantily and provocatively clad women, look at some other site. This one has some great free photos of women in sci-fi/fantasy/superheroic outfits, and those full-body latex suits which are great for photo manipulation to produce superhero costumes.
Latex Top 50- Again, adults-only. This lists the "top" websites featuring latex or rubber clad models (male and female).
Astronomy Picture of the Day Index- Stars, galaxies, nebulae, planets, comets, space stations, astronauts, and more. Images of all kinds of astronomy related objects, technology, and people. Includes some explanatory text. Some dead links.
Hero Machine- This is an incredibly cool user-friendly generator which will walk you through creating a highly customized picture of your character (comic book style), for the superheroic or fantasy genres (or sports, for some reason). Subtypes are available, e.g. you can create a picture of a superhero-martial artist-female, and customize the type and colour of aspects of the clothes, insignia, hair, belt, add wings, weapons, the lot. It's great, and you can print it up when you're done.
The Photographic Journey of Phillip Beuhler- Cityscapes, streetscapes, waterfronts, and best of all, modern ruins! This is just the site to go to if you want a picture of a crumbling bridge, abandoned warehouse, or decaying amusement park.
Louisiana Creole- Online glossary, list of common expressions, and notes on pronounciation. Note this is a serious website, not a fan creation of Gambit-isms.
Dictionary of English Slang- Very handy and extensive dictionary of English slang and colloquialisms of the UK. Includes some "adult" expressions.
The Dialectizer- Instant accents! OK, so it's pretty limited, but if you want to convert something you've written to a Cockney, Jive, or Redneck accented version, this is the site for you. The "Swedish Chef" and other similar possible accents are of limited roleplaying use, but certainly amusing all the same.
Internet Anagram Server- Get an instant calculation of all possible English anagrams of a word or phrase, great for puzzles or villians who think that spelling their name backwards is getting a little obvious. Will produce a lot of nonsense words, i.e. uncommon words you only come across in Scrabble games or in crosswords.
Fantasy Name Generator- Stuck for a dozen elvish sounding names? Try the auto-generator, its really surprisingly good, and has a flexible interface letting you specify if you want names with apostrophes in them, short names, long names, vowel-heavy names, etc.
The Everchanging Book of Names- A downloadable shareware random name generator particularly suited for fantasy names. Also includes some supplementary downloadable info specifically for certain game settings, including names in the World of Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Glorantha, Warhammer Fantasy, and ancient human cultures (e.g. Roman, Mongol).
Behind the Name: The Etymology and History of First Names- Includes a search engine that can search on the desired meaning of a name, limit by gender if wished, and then gives you a list of name options from various cultures.
The Hobbit Name Generator- See also their Elvish Name Generator. Put in your own female or male name (or random words, for that matter), and it'll give you a Tokien-esque name. Presumably some weird algorithm underlies these generators.
Celestial Names- Lists of angelic and demonic names and their meanings. Not necessarily very authoritative, but good enough for roleplaying purposes.

Places to Go, People to Be- An online magazine about roleplaying. Australian based, and welcomes submissions of articles.

OOC (Out of Character)- A whole bunch of articles written by a female gamer, about women's experiences in gaming, some more general articles, and the inevitable links to other pages of amusing gaming anecdotes. She has some newer articles at the Gamegrene website.
The Empire Club Home Page- Notable for the rarity of the genre, this page has a campaign chronicle of the exploits of the Empire Club, a daring group of adventurers in a 1930's pulp fiction genre setting, using the Champions/Hero System game system. Plenty of plot ideas to steal for your own game!
Confessions of a Dungeons and Dragons Addict- A well written short autobiographical story of a committed Christian's experience as a gamer. A positive outlook on gaming, the author defends his pro-gaming stance as completely compatible with being a Christian.
UFO News Today- A serious news reporting site about the latest government coverups of UFO sightings, the "face" on Mars, and so on. Good for conspiracy genre games.
Prism: Table of Contents- The Prism roleplaying system. Heavy on skill development.
Uncle Bear's Free RPGs- A listing of many online available RPG systems, in a variety of genres.

Shareware Software for Astonomy- You can download the fantastic free shareware program "Skyglobe" from here, a great sky planetarium program, which can simulate progression of stars, include planets, constellation maps, the lot, and get a map of what the sky looks like at almost any point in history or the future from almost anywhere in the world. You can also download the GeoClock software which tells you the time around the world (I haven't tried this latter software).
