Charles Jenkins, Retired Farmer, Died Early Today

Charles H. Jenkins, a retired farmer died at his home, 501 (561?) South
Twelfth Street, at 2:45 a.m. today.  His age was 68 years, one month,
and three days.

He was the son of ----- and Mary Jenkins.  He had resided here the past
seven years.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Friday afternoon at Oak
Hill church in Franklin county and interment will be made in Oak Hill
cemetery.

The body will remain at the home until one o'clock tomorrow afternoon.

Surviving are his widow, Minnie C Jenkins, two sons: Orval and Ralph,
both of Salem; seven daughters, Mrs Delsie  L- -nts of McLeansboro, Mrs
Dollie Boyles of  Mt Vernon, Mrs Chloe Lowery of Ewing, Mrs Vera
Moseburger, Mrs Veneta Schrum, Mrs Aletta  Hall and Mrs Violet Reeed,
all of Mt Vernon; one half-brother, Dallas Jenkins of Wynatche, Wash;
one half-sister, Mrs Alice Starr; and 25 grandchildren.

Capt. Charles Johnson Capt. Charles A. Johnson, 10th of 12 children of Robert and Elizabeth LEWIS JOHNSON, born 1829 in Flannigan Twsp, died Sept. 14, 1920 at home in Flannigan Twsp. Interment at Little Springs. Married Nancy Caldonia Irby in 1849 and had seven children: John W. JOHNSON, Martha J.(Mrs. Robert HUNGATE), Mary L. SNEED of Kansas, Ruth Esther (Mrs. Ezekiel HARRELSON), Nancy E. SNEED, and Laura HAMILTON. He was Captain of Co A, 40th Ill. Vol. Inf., Civil War. J. C. "Ed" Johnson

Funeral Services For Ed Johnson, Macedonia, This Afternoon at 2:00 Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon for J. C. (Ed) Johnson, of Macedonia, at the Methodist church there. Mr. Johnson passed away Tuesday at his home at the age of 62 years. He was born in this state in 1875, the son of Alexander and Sarah Johnson. He was married in 1896 to Dora Flowers, who survives. For several years he had operated a general store on Route 14 at the Macedonia crossroads. Besides his wife, the following children survive: Mrs. Lillian Fowler, Everett, Willard, Wilford, Guy, Goldie, and Dorothy Johnson. Three brothers, Riley, Albert and Elmer Johnson, also survive. Rev. A. B. Clodfelder will officiate at the funeral services, and interment will be held at the Macedonia cemetery with Drake Funeral Home in charge. John Washington Johnson John Washington JOHNSON, son of Capt. C. A. and Nancy JOHNSON, was born in Hamilton county November 23, 1850, departed this life at his home Nov. 9 1930, at the ripe age of 79 years, 11 months and 17 days. November 2, 1871, he was united in marriage to Lienisa HARRELSON. To this union was born 7 children, four sons and three daughters, namely: Dr. C. W. of McLeansboro; Benjamin W. of Dale; Robert E. of Benton; Dr. John Arthur of Benton; Mrs. Lula J. HENDERSON, Mrs. Laura BOYER and Mrs. Elsie COLEMAN. He has lived his entire life near the place of his birth and was one of the most prosperous farmers of our county. He with his faithful wife have fought the battles of life bravely together for 59 years. His daily life and dealings with his fellowman has won for him the good will and respect of both old and young and his word was his bond. He never was a member of any church, being raised by Baptist parents was of that belief. He was a stroung believer of christianity and was every ready to help any church or any worthey cause. He was blessed with the privilege of seeing his entire family grown and able to care for themselves. Greater love had no father for his home and family than he and one of his greatest joys of his last years and months was to see his children and grandchildren and many friends visit him. He had been afflicted for several months, fully realizing the time of his living was near. After a few days of intense suffering, death came as a relief. By his passing, the wife has lost a faithful husband, the children a loving father and the neighbors a good neighbor. He leaves to moun his death the above named children, 30 granchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. R. T. HUNGATE, Mrs. John L. SNEED, Mrs. Laura ONEAL and Mrs. Lizzie TURNER, all of McLeansboro, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home near Dale, Monday, November 10, conducted by D. H. KNIGHT in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends. Burial at I.O.O.F. cemetery.
