Cross Curricular Themes</head>
Cross-curricular themes
Cross curricular themes give every child the opportunity to learn in the way they can succeed.  Everyone can contribute, be listened to and speak freely.  My goal is for everyone to understand that as a human we all have something to give, communicate and teach others.  With cross curricular themes students bring objects from home to support the theme, and we have guest speakers.  Art, cooking and music are a big part of learning so that every modality is considered.

Fisher House

The students brought in money to donate to Fisher House.  We counted the money and bought them needed supplies.  We used the following curricular areas in our study:

Writing-Writing letters to soldiers

Reading-Reading and listening to appropriate text on the military

Geography-Places in the world related to our lives as citizens

A visitor spoke to the students about the geography of where the United States is currently at war. He spoke of his experience in the Air Force and showed pictures.

Math-counting money, buying and selling

History-Veteran’s Day, the military

A visitor gave us the history of Fisher House. We presented her with paper goods we bought to support the soldiers and their families as they are getting medical treatment.
