Please note the following: merely being nominated for a Darrell Award is NOT an honor.All it means is that SOMEONE liked your work enough to want it to be considered officially by the Darrell Awards Jury.
That someone could be YOU, your girlfriend, your mother, your publisher, a friend whom you paid, or even a member of the Jury who happened upon your work somewhere.
Since the nomination process is so wide-open, it does NOT mean anything to be merely nominated. It is just one step in the process of getting your work before the Jury -- NOT any sort of recognition in and of itself.
Also, every year, we find that some of the works nominated are not eligible (no regional author and no regional setting) or simply are not good enough to lend the credibility of our Award to their promotion.
This is why we do NOT confirm or deny that a work has been merely nominated.
For all these reasons, we ask that NO ONE promote their work as a Darrell Award nominee.
Wait until the Jury has released a list of Finalists or Semi-Finalists. If your work is on that list, it means some of the Jury considered it worth reading and that it was found to be qualified; that would then be worth promoting to the outside world. Look for this list to be posted here on the Darrell Awards website (http://darrellawards.org) -- and HERE it is: 2006 Semifinalists.
Of course, the Darrell Awards and the Dal Coger Memorial Hall of Fame Award will be presented at Midsouthcon in March. If your work is a Finalist and we have your contact information, we will contact you and offer a free one-day admission to the con, along
with a free banquet ticket so that you can attend the Awards Banquet on Saturday night
of the convention. If your work is a semi-finalist, it will be mentioned on the website and in any press releases we send out -- but that will be the extent of our publicity for the semi-finalists.Once the Awards are presented at Midsouthcon, we will post the Winners and Runners-Up and Honorable Mentions on the website and a press release will be sent out.
This is the process. We ask that you respect the process and not muddy the waters with inappropriate publicity for just being nominated. Thank you.
