History of the Barnett Family
Mary Ann Barnett, compiler, History of the Barnett Family, (unknown: Mary Ann Barnett, 1910); copied by Gertrude Cleghorn Josserand (Dodge City, Kansas, 1935). Sent by Mrs. Josserand to Nancy Barnett (Ironton,
Ohio, 1961). Sent by Mrs. Barnett to Sheryl Neal Slaughter (Russell Springs, Kentucky, 2001).
Although this manuscript does not tie into my Barnett line at the moment, it is the best copy I have found of Mary Ann Barnett's work to date. I would love to have original scanned images of the book. If you have it,
please share a copy for this site.
This history includes John White, first Governor of Virginia, Capt. John Smith, Virginia Dare, Pocahontas, John Rolfe, and their descendants in many states.
Note that there is quite a bit of discussion about what information is and is not correct in the book. To see some of the discussion, go to the Barnett surname list archives at
RootsWeb. I've included scanned images of all pages. NOTE: All pencilled notes appear to be those of Mrs.
Josserand.
