Bob Haefner (’49), Camille Mohow (’48)

 Bob Haefner (’49) agreed to take over the task of Webmaster from Larry Brown’63).
   After retiring as Manager of Information from Venture Stores in St. Louis Bob and his wife June (Camille) started and ran a small print shop in Ellisville until early 1999, when they sold their business, retiring (again), moving to Lee's Summit, MO. While operating the print shop for over 11 years, Bob & June made extensive uses of the computers in the design, printing and typesetting and publishing field, expanding services to providing support for customers and their web sites, web based stores, as well as business pages and mail systems.

 To keep busy and active Bob buys, restores
and sells antique British cars as a hobby as well as doing Genealogy / History or family
and many, many friends for over 40 years.
Bob still maintains a couple of commercial websites for some old customers of the Print shop.

Bob no longer carries keys to open a store, and never wears a watch...and he doesn’t plan on changing his life style. Bob and June are both enjoying retirement, being grandparents, plus baby and dog sitting.

Sandy Gibbons ’57

"Bob Hill Anderson must have taught me something useful," says Sandy Gibbons ('57). While her all time favorite job was being the Special Events Coordinator and Assistant P.R. Director for Famous-Barr Co. for 11 years, Sandy has been a newswoman for even longer. She didn't begin college until she was 50 but using experiences on the Flashlight staff and the Florissant Reporter, she, through odd circumstances, became editor of Donnelly newspapers, The Citizen and The County Star.  Sandy was a feature writer, ‘Entertaining at home’ columnist covered Ferguson, Florissant,


 Berkeley and Black Jack for The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. After 26 months in Jefferson City as Public Relations, Missouri Division of Tourism, Sandy returned to a life of free lance writing for regional and national publications. A non-denominational minister, Sandy has performed over 625 weddings in 3 states and Italy.

     I haven't been able to get to the reunions but I've enjoyed the photos and articles in the Flashlight and on the web site. Thanks.
As some of you know: I live in New York and I'm still doing what I did in school. A little theater and visual arts: painting, photography and multi media work .     The Flashlight is really good and very informative. Since my visit to St Louis I have been contacted by many of my classmates. We’re in contact by writing either by E-mail, snail-mail, and/or phone. It sure makes my day when I can talk to someone I had completely lost contact with many years ago. The new Flashlight format is really nice. I enjoy reading it each month. Did you know Ms. Niles also knew Leonard Nemoy (Mr. Spock)? He came to our school to do a rendition of “The Creation”. I’m not sure what year this happened in but it was the year I had American Lit. He also visited our classroom that day. WHERE IS JUNE ALLISON?
Check out the link taking you to the missing alumni list in your class. They may not even know they are missing!!  If there’s someone on the list whom you might know the whereabouts of (dead or alive) please email us the information or have them contact us. As you will see there’s only a few classes who have a lot missing. Most classes had someone who took the initiative to keep their class list current. This is not an easy task to undertake but does make it easier for the reunion committee.   Check all the classes. Classmate Remembered:   Austin Barnett was my neighbor, and father to Freddy ‘65 & Jerry ‘67. They lived 2 doors from us on Spencer. One day when I was in the fifth grade I’d torn my leg open on a cyclone fence. My Mom had just gotten home from the hospital; my Daddy was at still at work. I’d walked down to their house with my leg all ripped open when Mr. Barnett rushed me to their Doctor in U City. He carried me up a full flight of steps so the doctor could stitch me up.
     Audie (or Dewey) also served on the school board. Look in 60 yearbook – he’s in the front, D.A Barnett. I use to baby sit for their kids too. His wife, Florine, lives in O'Fallon but visited her husband in the VA home in Bellefontaine Neighbors every day.   -   Carol Beeman ‘60

1947 was a rebuilding year for the Wellston football team following the graduation of many of the stars of the 1946 regular season undefeated county championship team.  Still, despite winning only against Brentwood 25-0 and St. Charles 7-6, the 1947 Trojans worked and played hard all season, losing to county champion Webster Groves by only 19-12 in a hard fought game.

    Sharp passing and fine running quarterback Bob Grenier and hard hitting fullback Robert R. Smith sparked the Trojan offense.
    Letters were awarded to: Co-Captain Bob Grenier, Co-Captain Charles Oellermann, Larry Brown, Don Baker, Don Blume, Jim Currall, Ed Glover, Rich Jennerjohn, Geo Lavalle, Al Lloyd, Leon Payton, Bob H. USELESS NEWS
High School Reunion     
      My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion. I kept staring at this drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asks,
 "Do you know her?"  


 

Yes," I sighed, "She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since."
  My God!" says my wife, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long!"
Fred & Ethel     
     One night, a torrential rain soaked the Missouri River bottoms. The next morning the resulting floodwaters came up about 6 feet into most of the homes there including the home of two alumni.
    Mrs. Alumni was sitting on her roof with her neighbor, Ethel, waiting for help to come. Mrs. Alumni noticed a baseball cap, floating near the house. Then she saw it float far out into the front yard, then float back to the house; it kept floating away from the house, then back towards the house. Her curiosity got the best of her, so she asked Ethel, "Do you see that there baseball cap a floatin' away from the house, then back again?"
    Ethel said, "Oh yeah, that's my husband Fred; I told that lazy bum that he had to cut the grass today, come hell or high water."

About Growing Old
1) Eventually we’ll reach a point when we stop lying about our age and start bragging about it.
2) The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
3) Some people try turning back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know
“why” I look this way. I’ve traveled a long way and some of the roads weren’t paved.
4) When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth, think Algebra.
5) You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
6) I don’t know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
7) One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice
change from being young.
8) One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.
9) Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
10) Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called
witchcraft. Today it’s called golf.
And finally, if we don’t learn to laugh at trouble, we won’t have anything to laugh
at when we’re old.
